Southern Shih Tzu and Toy Breed Rescue (SSTR) is a 501(c)3 charity organization that is focused on saving dogs in kill shelters and puppy mills and placing them in loving forever homes. They also provide rehabilitation for social and behavioral issues, sanctuary care for senior and special needs furbabies, and allow them to live out their lives in a loving foster home when funding and foster room allow.
Dogs that have been adopted in the northeast region are carried on a dedicated transportation service, which comes to your location. The new home pays for the transport.
When facility and funding allow, SSTR saves toy breeds of all ages, regardless of health or temperament, with foster space and rescue. Unfortunately, they are currently restricted in terms of funds and foster homes. They are compelled to restrict the number of dogs they assist as a result of these restrictions.
Adoption Policy
The first step in the adoption process is to submit an online adoption application. This will give them a starting point in the adoption process and help them match you with the right dog. Their adoption process is not meant to discourage people from adopting; rather, their goal is to ensure that the dogs go to homes that are a good fit for them. They want to place their dogs in forever homes, so they have a detailed adoption process in place. If they place a dog in a situation that is not ideal, it sets the adoption up for failure. Toy Breed Rescue don’t want that to happen, so their detailed adoption process is essential.

The Animal Shelter is a 501c3 nonprofit animal shelter for homeless dogs and cats. Intake is primarily from Jacksonville, AL, though the shelter accepts animals from other areas as well. Though funds are limited, the shelter’s staff work tirelessly to find homes for the animals in their care. They are always looking for responsible rescues to partner with.
Adoption Policy
The shelter encourages adopters to come in and make the best match possible. Only bring small children if you’ve narrowed down your options to a few dogs you’d want to meet in the outside play yard. Because kennels may be too loud and frightening for little kids, they should not be brought inside. Tethering, chaining, and roaming are all forms of neglect that are not tolerated. All animals are up-to-date on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered and microchipped ahead of time (dogs) before leaving the shelter. They have a low adoption fee of $125 for dogs and $75 for cats.

Adoption Policy
Applicants are required to fill out the adoption application in its entirety. The application will then be reviewed and references checked. If applicants have specific requirements, it will take longer to find them a suitable dog.
Currently, Rockin P Rescue, Inc.’s adoption contributions are as follows:
$300.00 for a dog aged 10 weeks to 6 months
$250.00 for a dog aged 6 months to 1 year
$225.00 for a dog over one year
The Rockin P Rescue, Inc. covers the various expenses incurred in rescuing dogs. When a dog is brought into the program, it is taken to a veterinarian and given a complete examination, heartworm test (and necessary treatment), and vaccinated as needed. If the dog has not been altered, it is spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The goal of the Rockin P Rescue, Inc. is to ensure that each dog is healthy when adopted and that any ongoing medical conditions are disclosed to the adopter.

They are an all-volunteer organization that rescues Siberian Huskies because they love the breed. Monetary support for the rescue comes from their own pockets and donations made by their supporters. All donations go to the dogs!
Their founder, April, has been a husky lover and owner for 16 years. In March 2011, she saw an opportunity to help Siberian Huskies in Alabama. Their first dog, Pushkin, was going to be euthanized in a local shelter for no reason other than space. He’s a wonderful dog, and April knew she could find a loving home for him.
Therefore, she started Alabama Siberian Husky Rescue, pulled Pushkin from the shelter, had him fully vetted, and found him a loving and caring home. Since that time, ASHR has continued to help Siberian Huskies in Alabama. They continue to grow with wonderful and supportive volunteers, engaged adopters, and community involvement. Doug and Wanda McGee would never have imagined how their lives were about to change back in 2008. Doug, a police officer with the Albertville Police Department at the time, received a call about seven puppies that had been dumped in someone’s yard. Knowing the probable outcome for the seven puppies, Doug called Wanda. He brought the puppies home and both he and Wanda cared for these babies until they all found loving homes. The rest, as they say, is history!
Adoption Policy
Before visiting the Shelter, potential adopters should think about what qualities they are looking for in a pet. Dogs and cats come in all shapes, sizes, temperaments, and energy levels, so it’s important to choose wisely. It’s easy to get attached to a pet based on its cute face, but that isn’t always the best criterion for choosing a new family member.

The purpose of this organization is to prevent the overpopulation of dogs and cats in their community, through education on the responsibilities of pet ownership, and through our animal shelter, which provides a clean and stress-free temporary home for needy dogs and cats.
Adoption Policy
Have you been thinking about adding a cat or dog to your family? Wondering if you are ready? First and foremost, make sure you are prepared to care for your new pet for its entire life – 15 to 20 years on average for an indoor cat and 6 to 13 years for an indoor dog. Hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs end up in local shelters each year because their owners did not carefully consider the responsibilities associated with having a pet. Make sure you can provide a loving home for the entire life of your animal before adopting.
A responsible pet owner is someone who helps to keep pets healthy and happy. They provide proper care for their pet. This includes food, water, shelter, veterinary care, love & attention. They protect the health and safety of their pets and their community. They also prevent their pets from roaming free and producing unwanted litter.

Crossing Paths Animal Rescue is a group of volunteers who work to find good, loving homes for homeless dogs in Blount County, Alabama. The local shelter is considered a “high-kill” facility, meaning many of these dogs are euthanized after a week.
The Yardley/Newtown location in Bucks County, Pennsylvania serves as a satellite of Crossing Paths in Alabama. Their function is to bring awareness of the availability of these wonderful dogs to folks in PA and neighboring states and to facilitate adoptions in the Northeast where there is more demand for these highly adoptable dogs. Dogs that are adopted by people in the Northeast are transported every 2-3 weeks to various locations in Pennsylvania, and Maryland, and stops along the way. Periodically, they sponsor adoption events at local pet stores for which they bring up dogs of various ages, sizes, and breeds.
Adoption Policy
Crossing Paths Animal Rescue is not a shelter, their dogs are in a network of foster homes. They have transports of adopted dogs to the Hagerstown, MD area and as far north as Newtown, PA (and points along the way) at least every 3 weeks.
Please see their website for adoption and transport fee info. Visit www.crossingpathsanimalrescue.org for more information on fees and adoptions.

God’s Feral Felines Inc. There are many homeless kittens on the streets, and it can be difficult to know what to do. This can make a big difference in the number of homeless kittens on the streets.

Animal Assistance & Rescue Foundation (AARF) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing services and support to pets in need.
We are an all-volunteer-based organization with no facility for housing. All pets are cared for in foster homes.
We are a relatively small group with decades of animal welfare experience. We strive to do what is necessary to assist pets in need, while understanding each situation may be different. Often situations are presented that fall under one of our standard programs, however, we are committed to looking at each situation and developing a plan to assist that is within our means to do so. We do so with kindness, compassion, and common sense.
We strive for every pet to have a safe, happy home where they are a well-loved member of the family.
Adoption Policy
Please complete the adoption survey if you are interested in one of our adoptable pets. A team member will be in touch to discuss the pet you are interested in and set up a time for a meet and greet.
If everything goes well during the meet and greet and all parties agree, the contract will be completed, the adoption fee collected, and you will take your new family member home. Because we are 100% volunteer-run and most of us work full-time jobs outside of rescue, please allow time for us to work through the application process and contact you. We do not transport out of state; if you are willing to drive here, please contact us.

K9 ResQ of AL, Inc. is a non-profit, all-volunteer animal rescue located in Birmingham, Alabama. We are not a shelter and are able to function solely through a network of individual foster homes and donations.
K9 ResQ of AL advocates responsible pet ownership by offering advice and resources to provide proper vetting, spaying and neutering, and training. We work with various shelters in Alabama and the public in an attempt to find loving homes for as many homeless or needy dogs as possible. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason.
We screen anyone interested in fostering or adopting by using thorough applications, legally binding contracts, and doing reference, vet, and home checks. We place dogs in loving and responsible homes following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care to find good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. We require an adoption fee.
Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and are placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed, or ease of placement.
We remain interested in and committed to the welfare of the dogs beyond the adoption process.
Adoption Policy
To help save a life and bring a new best friend into your home, please start your journey here.
We DO require an Adoption Fee for every dog.
Please understand we have a nonnegotiable and nonrefundable Adoption Fee of $200. This helps us recover a small portion of what we spend on each dog and enables us to continue helping those who are homeless and needy. The vetting we provide goes significantly beyond what is considered ‘normal’ for most shelters and rescues. Our costs far exceed our Adoption Fee.
K9 ResQ remains an all-volunteer organization.

Fairy Dogmother Rescue is a small dog rescue in north central Alabama dedicated to making good things happen for dogs in need. Out-of-state adoptions are welcome. Adopters come from all over the southeast and beyond to adopt FDM’s dogs. Transport to Virginia and New England is available via PETS, LLC
Many FDM dogs come from kill shelters on their last day. Kill shelters can and do kill owner surrenders without any time given for a chance to be adopted. No dog should die because its owner is unable to keep the dog. As space and resources allow, FDM takes as many small dogs in danger of going to a kill shelter as possible, whether they be small owner surrenders, small dogs whose owner has died, or small starved, injured, and dumped strays in need of a Fairy Dogmother. Sometimes referrals to other rescues are possible for dogs too large for FDM. There is no “time limit” at FDM. When the right person, couple, or family finds us, ALL Fairy Dogmother’s dogs go to wonderful homes…
The rescue is located in Baileyton, AL at the home of founder/director, Glenda Wilhite. Dogs are seen by appointment. Application to meet or adopt is required before appointments are scheduled or our address or directions are provided. Please email for same to fairydogmother@gmail.com Visitors are welcome to see all the available dogs. If everything goes well, visitors can go home with a new family member that day.

Profile
The Alabama Animal Adoption Society is a nonprofit organization supported entirely by private donations and volunteer efforts serving the Greater Birmingham, Alabama area. Along with our volunteers and caring, adoptive families, we’re giving animals a chance to live.
Since 1977, our mission has been to help strays and unwanted family pets find loving and responsible homes and to educate the public regarding the problem of pet overpopulation and the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.
Adoption Policy
A $100 tax-deductible donation is required to adopt a pet. This donation helps us provide the services we offer and basic medical care for our adoptees.
Kittens and Puppies
Shots appropriate to the pet’s age
One worming
Free spay or neuter certificates can be taken to one of our participating veterinarians.
Adult Animals
All permanent shots with the exception of rabies. Because rabies vaccinations (required annually by Alabama State Law) provide a tag and certificate made out in the owner’s name, it is best for the new owner to take care of this in case the pet ever becomes lost.
If not already spayed or neutered, the pet comes with a free spay or neuter certificate that can be taken to one of our participating veterinarians.

Weimaraner Rescue of the South is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. Our priority is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Weimaraners in need in Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. All Weimaraners in our care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any known medical issues they might have, including, but not limited to heartworm disease, orthopedic concerns, vision issues, and anything else needed. Our efforts are funded by adoption fees and donations from “Weim-loving” people like you.
Adoption Policy
Weimaraner Rescue of the South is a strong advocate of responsible pet ownership, which includes and is not limited to:
1. Consistent history of preventative care, including monthly heartworm prevention and annual wellness exams, vaccinations, and heartworm tests.
2. All current pets are spayed or neutered.
3. WRS rarely places dogs into homes without a structurally fenced yard. We do not consider “invisible fences” to be a suitable substitution.
Any person/persons applying to adopt who does not meet the responsible pet ownership requirements set forth by WRS will have their application denied.
Each dog offered for adoption has been spayed or neutered, is current on all shots, has been heartworm tested, and is on heartworm preventative. WRS will make recommendations of dogs who match the applicant’s lifestyle, home environment, activity level, etc. We will not place a particular dog in a home if we feel it is not a suitable fit.
Adult dogs – $300
Puppies younger than 6 months – $375 + $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit
Senior dogs (age 9+) – $225
If interested in adopting from Weimaraner Rescue of the South, please submit an application at www.weimrescue.com.

We are a volunteer for all breeds/species of animal sanctuaries including cats, dogs, horses, goats, donkeys, and various other creatures. We operate a 65-acre facility with play yards, kennels, and a large cattery. We rescue from high-kill shelters as well as the needy animal found wandering the streets. We fully vet and spay/neuter all of our pets PRIOR to placement in a wonderful forever home. We have a strict application process that involves at least one (1) home visit as well as a possible follow-up visit before the adoption can be finalized. We have to make sure that we get it right because our babies are lucky to get a “2nd Chance” and they might not get a 3rd.
Adoption Policy
Our adoption fee is $150.00 and up depending on the medical attention that has been required to bring the animal to a healthy condition. We have legal and binding adoption contracts and each adoption is contingent on a two-week trial basis. All adoption fees are tax-deductible donations and are therefore Non-Refundable.
After an application has been approved you will be invited to the sanctuary to meet the animals and to see if there is a connection made between you and the animal you are interested in. We encourage you to look at all the animals that fit your criteria so that you can better make the best decision for your family.

Brindlee Mountain Animal Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer animal rescue organization serving Marshall County, Alabama, and the surrounding geographic area. We are dedicated to rescuing companion animals left homeless for whatever reason – animals in public shelters where they are at high risk of being destroyed, animals gave up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and animals in danger of abuse or neglect.
We place companion animals in loving, responsible, committed homes, following a comprehensive adoption process that includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a pet into their homes and lives.
Brindlee Mountain Animal Rescue, Inc. has been issued 501(c)(3) non-profit status from the IRS. Our EIN is 82-5125217. We are a no-kill rescue group, incorporated in November of 2017 with years of animal and rescue experience among our volunteers.
Adoption Policy
We place companion animals in loving, responsible, committed homes, following a comprehensive adoption process that includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a pet into their homes and lives. Animals in our care are spayed or neutered and receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment.
Our adoption fees vary because of the breed size, and normal vet cost. This is intended to cover the costs of having the animal fully vetted and the costs of caring for the animal prior to placement in a home. Many of the animals we help have veterinary costs which are much higher than the adoption fee. For these animals, we rely on donations and small fundraisers to offset those costs.

We do not have a central location but do adoption events in Alabaster regularly and adopt out as an animal rescue in Birmingham & the surrounding areas.
Adoption Policy
If interested in fostering, please fill out our adoption application and list “fostering” under “which animal” are you interested in the question.

We are an all-volunteer foster home-based animal rescue organization in central Alabama. We rescue trap and rescue strays and abandoned and unwanted litter, and we have a TNR program that results in rescuing social cats occasionally. We also pull from rural shelters when we have a foster home in place. We save lives and help to lower overpopulation by spaying/neutering animals in our care and we offer assistance every month to low-income families who need help fixing their pets.
Adoption Policy
We appreciate that you have considered the responsibilities of pet ownership and are interested in rescuing your new best friend. You came to the right place. We work hard to match you with the best pet for your lifestyle. We ask for an application, an adoption fee, and a brief home visit. It’s okay if you don’t live in Alabama.
Home visits can be nationwide through a network of animal rescue volunteers and at the adopter’s convenience. Your new pet has been spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, bordetella, and rabies, heartworm negative, microchipped and taking preventatives. You will receive your pet’s medical records. Small breed puppies will come with a spay/neuter contract and/or refundable deposit.
Local area adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $285 for puppies, toy breeds may be more. Seniors and bonded pairs may be less. You may come for your new pet if you live outside of our area or we may bring your pet to you within 100 miles. Long-distance adoption is possible depending on location. Long-distance adoptions over 350 miles come with transportation and Health certificate costs. We strive to make the adoption process as easy as possible.

New Hope Rescue, Inc. is an organization set up to assist in animal rescue. We are located in Alabama. NHR does not house animals and we do not have a shelter. The goal of New Hope Rescue, Inc. is to reduce euthanasia by offering assistance with spaying and neutering services, providing microchip services, and increasing awareness of the unwanted pet population. The organization will function through donations solicited from various local individuals and businesses. Funds will be used solely for the care of the animals. We pull animals from high-kill shelters to help place them in loving homes. Before they are adopted, they will be spayed/neutered, utd on all shots, rabies, and microchipped. We believe they deserve a 2nd chance. But we only pull if we have a committed foster. Apply here: www.nhrescue.com.
New Hope Rescue wants to focus on raising money by hosting fundraising events such as raffles, yard sales, bingo nights, etc. We want to be able to send money to rescues that house animals to pay for their food, medical needs, transport fees, and any other need they might have.
Adoption Policy
New Hope Rescue, Inc. wants nothing but the best for the animals we are placing. NHR requires anyone interested in adopting to fill out an adoption application first. Once approved, we will require a meet-n-greet with the pet of interest. Then if all goes well, NHR requires a home check before placing animals in your home. We want to make sure all fencing is in place, proper kennels are ready, and the dog is comfortable during the walk and we feel comfortable leaving the pet in your care. Again, we just want to make sure the pet is in the best possible home possible.

We are a foster home-based rescue. We do not have a physical shelter. An approved application is required to meet our dog/cats. Applicants are subject to home checks and are required to leave permission with their veterinarian, to allow us to call and check their vetting history. This is in addition to our routine screening of the application. Homeownership is required. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and current on age-appropriate vaccinations, as well as placed on flea/tick/heartworm prevention.
Adoption Policy
We reserve the right to refuse any applicant for any reason if we feel the needs of the dog will not be properly met or the adoption is not in the best interest of the dog.
The first step is to complete the adoption application (attached at the top of the page if you have difficulty, please contact us and we will be sure to help you!). You must also give your most current vet contact information, or the vet most recently used in the past. Be sure to call the vet office that you list and let them know that you have listed them as a contact and that it is okay for them to share your information. Once an application is conditionally approved, you will be notified. We will also share your application with the foster parent who, at times, may contact you directly to discuss your needs/wants in relation to the animal to help determine the best fit for the dog or cat. Please note that a phone call does NOT guarantee a meet & greet or adoption of the dog/cat. We will then set up a home visit with the animal of interest. From there, we will be in touch with you.
The adoption fee covers all of the vetting (updated on vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea-tick prevention). You will receive a portfolio with all of your rescue pet’s information and medical records, as well as a copy of the adoption contract. We require that you sign an adoption contract upon adoption in order to ensure the safety of the rescue pet in any event.
Being a non-profit organization means that all of our adoption fees and donations go directly toward the care of each of the animals. By adopting a rescue animal, you are saving several lives-that of your new rescue pet, as well as the next animal in need behind them…and of course, bettering your own life. By rescuing, you are opening a spot for another animal to be taken in, and your adoption fee goes directly toward the care and vetting of that animal in need.
There is a 2-4 day waiting period before the adoption is finalized to ensure adequate evaluation time and also to eliminate spur-of-the-moment decisions to adopt. Waiting 2-4 days before finalization allows you, the applicant, time to reflect on your decision to adopt to eliminate a poor experience for the animals and for the adopting families. The animal’s welfare is our primary concern.
Please consider rescuing-there are so many in need. Complete our adoption application today, and/or feel free to contact us regarding our adoption process! mailto:furgetmenotrescue@gmail.com

Located in Huntsville, Alabama, we find forever homes for all animals in our care. We never euthanize any pet entrusted to us. The Greater Huntsville Humane Society has been rescuing North Alabama’s homeless animals for more than 50 years.
Our mission is dedicated to supporting the humane care and treatment of all animals and providing adoption services to homeless and unwanted animals.
We also proudly serve our community through programs such as King’s Community Kitchen, Pet Wellness Clinics, the GHHS Thrift Store, Three Tails Resale, and other great initiatives.
Adoption Policy
To begin your adoption process, please click the image (or button) of the pet you’d like to adopt to view more info about that animal. You will be redirected to Shelterluv to complete your adoption.
Our mission is to complete families through a thoughtful and thorough adoption process.
To ensure every animal is placed in a forever home, GHHS begins this process with a detailed adoption application. You will fill out the application after choosing an animal to adopt. To be considered for adoption:
You must be at least 19 years old.
If you rent housing, you must have written permission from your landlord and proof of pet deposit.
If adopting into a family, we require all members of the family (including current dogs) to meet the animal on GHHS premises. This also means that animals cannot be adopted as “surprises” or “presents.”
Some dogs may require a home inspection.
Meeting these guidelines is not a guarantee that your application will be accepted. GHHS reserves the right to adopt only qualified homes based on our guidelines. Each adoption is considered on a first-come, first-qualified basis once the animal is available for adoption. Exceptions may be made for potential adopters.
Adoption Fees vary based on the pet.
The adoption fee covers spay/neuter surgery (legally required), current vaccines and boosters, a microchip with lifetime registration, heartworm preventative until the time of adoption, and a small bag of food. Please note: all dogs must leave with a collar and leash. You can bring these items with you or purchase them at the shelter.

Huntsville Animal Services is a municipal ran entity of the city of Huntsville, AL. We accept pets from citizens, not only in Huntsville but in rural Madison County as well. As you might imagine, this is a HUGE load on us as we work to combat the problem of unwanted pet overpopulation. Currently, we take in over 6,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, and more each and every year. Shelter staff and volunteers work tirelessly on and off the clock to save as many of these animals as possible but we can not do it alone. We need your help! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spay/neuter your pets and choose adoption when you look to add to your furry family!
Adoption Policy
Our friendly shelter staff is available 6 days a week to help you with your pet adoption needs. We kindly ask that you plan to have your adoption completed 30 minutes prior to closing as our clerks need that time to close out paperwork for the day.
Adoption fees range in price depending on what pet license option you choose (if you live in the City of Huntsville). Should you have a question regarding the adoption fees on a particular animal, please call or come by the shelter with the animal ID# for the one you are inquiring about and someone would be glad to assist you.
We have two petting rooms and three outdoor play yards. Please ask a Huntsville Animal Services associate for assistance when you arrive.
We invite you to come to Huntsville Animal Services and have a look around. While many people write us off as just a “dog pound”.

At the Ark, we operate as a non-profit, no-kill shelter, and constantly strive to bring the best to our community by rescuing animals in need. From there, we provide veterinary services and a loving shelter until we can find them their proper homes. Feel free to explore more about us!
Adoption Policy
The adult adoption program is for animals that have received all of their vaccinations, have been spayed/neutered, are micro-chipped, and are up-to-date on all heartworm and flea/tick/worm preventatives. When adopted, these animals will go to a new home on a 2-week trial period. Payment to the Ark is required for individuals interested in adoption. The Ark will hold the payment during the 2-week trial period giving the family time to make a final decision about the animal.
The purpose of the 2-week trial is to ensure that the animal fits into the family and that everyone, including the animal, is happy with the new living arrangement. If the animal doesn’t fit into your family, then you return it to the Ark and will receive a refund on the adoption fee.
The foster-to-adopt program (FTA) works a little differently than the adult adoption program. This program was designed for those animals that come to the Ark that aren’t old enough to have all of their vaccinations or be spayed/neutered, such as puppies and kittens, or those that have medical conditions that need to be treated before all vaccinations and spaying/neutering can occur.
The foster-to-adopt program allows individuals to take an animal home only after signing an agreement with the Ark that states that they are responsible for taking the animal to the Ark’s veterinarian for vaccinations and spaying/neutering. The adoptee is given a vaccination schedule and they are to make the appointments with our vet at the Ark’s expense. From there, the Ark will mail the final adoption papers and micro clip card.
Adopters pay the adoption fee upfront and it will be held until after the veterinarian confirms that all vaccinations and spaying/neutering have occurred, then the adoptee will return to the Ark to complete the final adoption paperwork. Animals in the foster-to-adopt program are still considered Ark animals until the adoptee adheres to the FTA contract regarding vaccinations and spaying/neutering. Only then will the adoption be final. If the adoptee does not adhere to the FTA contract, the animal must be returned to Ark. If the animal doesn’t fit into your family, it can be returned to the Ark for a refund.

The Montgomery Humane Society has been committed to its mission for over 100 years. The Montgomery Humane Society prevents cruelty to animals by operating an animal shelter for homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals; by operating an adoption center for healthy animals; by investigating cruelty and abuse cases; and educating the public on animal owner responsibility. The Montgomery Humane Society is an open-admission animal shelter that accepts all animals.
The Montgomery Humane Society was founded in 1920 and its mission has been providing shelter and care for animals ever since. It accepts all animals, regardless of their breed, age, or medical condition. The society also offers advice and guidance to pet owners in order to help them with the challenges and joys of animal ownership.
Adoption Policy
Pet Adoption Requires an Application AND an appointment. No walk in’s accepted.
The placement of our adoptable animals into loving, caring homes and thereby enhancing the bond between animals and people is the primary goal of the Montgomery Humane Society Adoption Program. We focus on education so that every pet owner benefits from their contact with the shelter, whether or not they adopt an animal from us. Matching the needs of the animal and the potential owner, as well as educating potential owners about responsible pet ownership, helps to ensure successful pet placements of shelter animals.

Adoption Policy
The Madison Animal Rescue Foundation (MARF) is a non-profit 501C3 foundation that saves animals from Madison Animal Control, City of Madison, Alabama. MARF was founded and is run by volunteers.
MARF is a strong advocate of responsible pet ownership which includes and is not limited to: monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, annual vaccinations, annual heartworm tests, microchip & registration, and spay/neuter of all current pets living with the person/persons applying to adopt a pet from Madison Animal Rescue Foundation.
To Rescue as many homeless animals from the City of Madison, Alabama as possible. MARF strives to promote a positive public image for the City and is a strong advocate of responsible pet ownership which includes and is not limited to: monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, annual vaccinations, annual heartworm tests, spay neuter and microchipping of all pets. MARF microchips and registers all of our animals as a proactive measure to ensure that any MARF animal that is lost is reunited with their owner.
MARF was founded in 2008 for one purpose: To save the Animals of the City of Madison. At the time, the city had a 98% euthanasia rate. This means basically any animal not claimed was euthanized after 7 days. MARF has single-handedly reduced that rate to virtually zero! The City of Madison now boasts they are “no-kill” due to the tireless efforts of our volunteers and fosters! We started as a small group who paid the vet bills out of our own pockets for every animal that came into the shelter and we pulled to save. We have grown to save over 6,000 animals, not only from Madison Animal Control but also the lost, abandoned, or surrendered pets in Madison and surrounding counties. We rescue not only from Madison County but also Decatur, Athens, and other nearby community shelters. Our amazing donors and volunteers who constantly have fundraisers have allowed us to spend over $150,000 a year in vet bills to save these animals. We may not have the highest numbers compared to other rescues, but we strive to ensure every one of our precious pets goes to the best home. We require applications and vet checks. We want our animals to be a part of your family and be the best fit for them and you! When it doesn’t work out we do all in our power to help the adopter, offer advice, help, and often pay for training.
In addition, MARF often helps those who love their pets but are on hard times by assisting with vetting, food, or medicine as our budget allows. We initiated a spay/neuter program for the city of Madison at our own expense.
We aren’t perfect, but we strive to be as close to perfect as possible when it comes to saving animals and doing our utmost to ensure they are cared for and go to the best home possible.
Promote the humane treatment of animals
Establish a rescue-friendly environment through adoption programs and public awareness
Promote the importance of Spaying and Neutering to control the pet population
Ensure every animal adopted from MARF is vaccinated and spayed or neutered
Provide proper disease control
Educate the community on the humane treatment of animals

LANDLORD APPROVAL; if you rent- please verify before applying that your landlord does not have breed or size restrictions
Physical fenced-in yard (Some exceptions may apply)
Permission of all adults living at the residence
ALL Other animals residing with you must be current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention

How much are the adoption fees?
Typically, puppies start at $250, and adults vary (average$200). All adoptions include age-appropriate vaccinations (puppies a minimum of two puppy series vaccinations), rabies vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and heartworm test.
For breeds that have a higher demand, there is a higher adoption fee that helps offset the cost of care for the dogs in our care with special needs, low demand, and seniors.

With our individualized, respect-based training and decompression program, we will ensure more dogs find and keep loving homes. We will assist local shelters and rescues in rehabilitating abused and neglected dogs who are considered “unadoptable” due to anxiety-triggered behavioral issues. We will provide training and resources for the entire community to promote safer interactions between dogs, their canine companions, and humans. In doing so, we will help reduce the number of dogs euthanized due to fear-based reactivity.
Adoption Policy
Interested, potential adopters will need to complete and submit an adoption application. Upon approval of the preliminary screening, HKRTinc will make an appointment for a meet and greet. A home visit and an official adoption contract are required to complete an adoption.
Our adoption fees are $150 for adults or dogs 1 year of age or older and $300 for puppies under 1year of age. The fee includes 3 training sessions in their new home, alteration, microchip, and county license and all dogs are current on vaccinations and preventatives, administered/dispensed by a licensed veterinarian. Training is ongoing and pertinent to each individual dog, while with HKRTinc. Most of our adoptable dogs will be basic obedience trained, at minimum. These are our standard adoption fees, but on occasion, they are waived or reduced. Veterinarian care remains the same in all instances.
Should the adopter decide they are not a good fit for the dog, adopters have 30 days to return the dog, in the same condition, to receive a full return. If at any given time the adopters want to rehome, they are required to return the dog over to HKRT, even if it is past the 30-day trial period.

Once you’ve decided that you would like to get a pet from us, we simply ask that you make an appointment to meet the pet and fill out the Adoption Pledge / Application. You will give the adoption fee then or a deposit will be given to hold a pet. We will schedule a home visit and if all goes well, the pet is yours!

Profile
Our mission is to find the best possible homes for the animals in our care. We are a small rescue with its home-based out of Seale, Alabama. We pull dogs and puppies from local kill shelters. We have them vetted, spayed or neutered, and fostered in a loving and nurturing home. When they are ready, our pets are privately transported to our satellite locations in New Jersey for adoption into loving homes.
Adoption Policy
Application: Step 1- All potential adopters are required to fill out an Adoption Questionnaire by copying this link onto your browser: https://form.jotform.com/60475571571156.
Once your application is verified and approved, a representative will conduct a home visit. A home visit will not be scheduled until an application is completed, submitted, and verified. Please note if you have a dog and are adopting another one we may require a meet and greet: We want to make sure your existing pet loves your new friend as much as you do. Meeting on neutral territory will make the selection and introduction process that much easier. Please note that meet and greets may not always be possible due to families choosing to pre-adopt before the puppies arrive in NJ. If you have cats at home, we will do our best to cat test for you but it is not always possible.
All family members and/or roommates must meet the pet. Some small children are allergic to cats or dogs, but their parents are not aware of it yet. Some elderly family members can’t handle the size or activity level of some of our canine guests. Some animals get along perfectly with one person, yet may act aggressively toward another. Bringing everyone who will be a part of the family or the household is critical to the success of the adoption.
Out-of-State Adopters: We do adopt to out-of-state residents, however, in-state applicants (New York & New Jersey) receive priority. If you live outside New York or New Jersey we will do our best to find a volunteer to conduct a home visit on our behalf. If a home visit cannot be completed, we cannot go any further with your application. You must come and meet the dog(s) you are interested in adopting and if you want to adopt, you will have to drive your new dog home with you.
Bow Wows and Meows Pet Rescue does not conduct DNA tests on the dogs it adopts. We use the information provided by the shelters, veterinarians, and volunteers to give the best estimate of the dog’s breed and future size. As a result, we cannot guarantee the exact breed or future size of any dog in our care. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential dog breeds for each dog.
Our Adoption Contract must be completed upon adoption, and there is an adoption fee of $425-$525 required to cover the cost of shelter pull fees, vetting, spay/neuter, and transportation from Alabama to New Jersey.
We try to do right by every person who comes our way looking for a new family pet. But sometimes we have to do what is best for our pups. Our animals do not have a say in where they go; since we speak for those who have no voice, we must do it well. Everyone who wants to adopt an animal from a shelter or rescue group is special because they open their homes to those in need. But, while we try to meet the needs of everyone, our clients are the animals. They have no one else. We appreciate your understanding.

Promote the humane treatment of animals.
Establish a rescue-friendly environment through adoption programs and public awareness.
Promote the importance of Spay and Neutering to control the pet population.
Build a rescue-friendly shelter of which the community and City will be proud.
Educate the community on the humane treatment of animals, caring for abandoned strays, and finding homes for unwanted pets.
Providing foster or adoption services before animals are unjustly euthanized.
Adoption Policy
Peace, Love, and Animals have a multi-step adoption process to ensure that every animal we send to a home will be sent to the perfect home for life. If you are interested in adoption please read through the process below.
1. First fill out our Adoption Application and send it to us. It can be found here:
http://www.peaceloveandanimals.org/adoption.html
If you are having difficulties downloading the Adoption Application, please contact us at 256-233-4343 or email us at peaceloveandanimals@gmail.com.
During the review, your vet will be contacted for reference on past and present pets. If you currently don’t have pets and do not have a vet, we recommend checking for vets in your area and having one selected for when we do a home visit.
2. The next step involves a home visit
We strongly feel that this is one of the most important steps in our adoption process. Home visits tell us if the pet is compatible with other pets that you may already have and that the pet doesn’t have any problems with its new environment. The pet should feel comfortable with the surrounding environment and meet all the members of your entire family. The home visit gives us the opportunity to know if everyone is in agreement with the adoption and is comfortable with it.
3. Adoption contract and adoption fee
After the home visit and after you are approved for adoption, there is an adoption fee ($150 adult dogs / $165 puppies) as well as an adoption contract. The contract is your word in writing that you will take the best care of the pet and that they will live out the rest of their lives with a loving family. The fee helps us cover some of our vetting expenses for the pet, including vaccinations and neutering/spaying.
We are willing to travel out of state to find the perfect home for an animal. Please contact us for questions.

Each year, the Athens Limestone Animal Shelter accepts more than 3,000 dogs and cats from animal control officers in Athens and Limestone County and from citizens who find strays or can no longer care for their pets. Every effort is made to reunite lost animals with their families and to find loving, forever homes for every adoptable dog and cat.
Spay or neuter your pets. There are more animals needing homes than there are homes ready to accept them. Please don’t bring unwanted puppies and kittens into the world.
Adopt your next pet from a shelter or rescue group instead of purchasing a dog or cat from a breeder or pet store. There are purebred animals in shelters waiting for homes, and besides, what’s wrong with a mixed-breed animal? It gives them character!
Foster. Often times rescue groups require a dog to be out of the shelter for two weeks before they’ll accept him. Or a mother cat needs a quiet place to nurse her babies through the early weeks of life. Can you provide that temporary home that gives an animal a chance for a forever family?
Volunteer. If you can walk a dog or pet a cat, you can be a valuable volunteer. Shelter animals need socialization that only people can give them.
Donate. Pet food, cat litter, litter boxes, treats, towels, and toys.
Sponsor. We work with rescue groups throughout the country to find homes for our animals, and if we can help cover the cost of transporting these animals to those groups, they are generally more willing to accept them. $90 is the average cost of sponsorship.
Support. Your financial support helps feed and provide veterinary care for thousands of cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies every year. You can send a check or give it by credit card or PayPal online.

Paws of Dixie is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Alabama. Our mission is to save unwanted, abandoned, and neglected animals and place them into loving, forever homes; as well as educate the community on the significance of spaying and neutering.
Adoption Policy
To adopt a pet we require you to fill out an application. After doing so we will verify your home address and talk with your current vet. Our goal is to get our beloved pets into a home that is loving and the pet becomes part of the family unit.
We also require you to sign an agreement that if you decide for any reason you do not wish to have the pet any longer, the pet must be returned to us.
We hold the right to refuse an adoption if we feel the pet and family are not a good match.
Please understand we do not wish to upset anyone, but the family and pet must be happy. Therefore the pet must be able to interact with the family and its activities. Also, the family must be able to care for the pet’s physical and mental needs.
We may require references as well as home visits. We put a lot of love into our precious pets and we know you will be just as caring and concerned as we are for the well-being of our pets.
Thank you for your understanding.

Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama is dedicated to rescuing and finding loving homes for homeless or needy basset hounds throughout the state of Alabama.
The basset hounds we rescue come from a number of places and situations including shelters, owner surrenders, or unclaimed strays. Every incoming basset visits one of our veterinarians who offer discounts for their services to BHRA. While at the vet, the basset receives a full check-up, vaccinations, and heartworm test. Individual hounds are treated for heartworm if they are positive, as well as other medical challenges that may arise during their examination. After complete medical evaluation and treatment, each dog is placed in a loving foster home until a “furever home” can be found. The financial survival of BHRA is due solely to adoption fees (which, typically, do not cover vetting costs) and donations from the public. All funds received go strictly to the care and vetting of these precious hounds; no administrative fees are claimed.
Adoption Policy
Shortly after your Adoption Application is received, our Adoption Coordinator will contact you. You may have a specific basset in mind, and this is the time to share this information with our Coordinator. A volunteer will make an appointment to come to visit your home and talk to you about adoption.
You will then complete the Adoption Agreement and submit the Adoption Fees:
Puppies: 0 to 2 years old: $275.00
Dogs: 2 years to 8 years old: $250.00
Dogs: over 8 years old: $150.00
Note: Ages of hounds are estimates determined by our vets at the time of intake.
Please note: All fees and the Adoption Agreement must be received prior to the date the dog travels.
After your Adoption Agreement and fee are received, arrangements will be made to get your new family member to you. Your dog’s records will be mailed to you within a week.
Approximately 1-2 months after your adoption, you will be contacted by our Follow-up Coordinator. The Coordinator will be checking in with you for an update on your new family member.
Special Adoption Note: If you are in a state other than Alabama, please contact your local Basset Hound Rescue first.

We have saved over 4,000 dogs and we work tirelessly to continue the fight on the front lines. The more people get involved, the stronger we are. Check out how you can help today.
We are committed to protecting animals in Alabama from abuse, cruelty, and neglect. Southern states have no spay and neuter laws and animal cruelty is only a misdemeanor if it is prosecuted at all. As a result, southern shelters kill for space on a daily basis. We take in animals from these overcrowded kill shelters and provide them with love and care until they find a loving home, and then provide transportation to those new homes! All of this is possible through community support and donations, and with your support, we can expand our reach and care even further!

Please do not come to the shelter. We are not currently holding business hours. Meet n greets or animal pick-up/drop-off will be discussed with the adoption counselor after the application approval.
What is included in the adoption fee?
Our adoption fee includes the spay or neuter surgery, microchip, vaccinations for the Bordatella Virus (Kennel Cough), Parvo/Corona Virus (Distemper), Canine Influenza Virus (CIV), and a 14-day limited health guarantee.
What is the adoption process?
We ask that all potential adopters complete an adoption application that helps us determine how the pet will fit into your current lifestyle. All adopters must be at least 18 years of age. We need to have landlord approval prior to adopting to renters. We do not place holds on any pet that is available for adoption. If there are multiple approved adoption applications, the selection of the most suitable home and the best match will be made by drawing.
All members of the family should meet with the new pet. If there are other dogs in the household, we request that the potential adopters go through a “meet and greet” process with their current dog. This helps us and the family determine whether the dogs will get along with each other. In the case of a senior dog who may be overstressed by visiting the shelter, we will waive the “meet and greet” requirement. We do not have a “meet and greet” requirement for cats. If you are planning to adopt a dog and have cats at home, please ask our staff how the dog is good with cats.

501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue located in Florence, AL. PAWS is an animal rescue group serving Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin counties.
Pets Are Worth Saving (P.A.W.S.) is dedicated to providing assistance to abandoned and abused pets in northwest Alabama.
Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to:
1. Facilitating the adoption of abandoned companion animals into permanent loving homes.
2. Raising funds to support a low-cost spay/neuter program and TNR Program
3. Establishing a no-kill community for NW Alabama
4. Educating people on the compassionate treatment and care of companion animals
We are in need of cat and dog foster homes.
PAWS does not have a shelter. We operate entirely out of foster homes. Fostering is an integral part of our organization as it allows us to place dogs, cats, and other abandoned, orphaned or surrendered animals into loving homes while they wait for a permanent adoptive family. We provide support and veterinary care. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we are able to save!
We do not receive any public funding and depend on donations, adoption fees, and community support to continue saving companion animals from being euthanized.
Thank you for your support.
Adoption Policy
The adoption Fee is $125 for dogs/puppies and $85 for cats/kittens which covers vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, and all necessary vetting while in our care.

The mission of the Bigbee Humane Society is to make possible a better world for all animals by providing shelter, educating the community about humane care and treatment, advocating animal welfare, and promoting the human-animal bond.
Adoption Policy
Our dogs are seen by appointment only after your general application has been approved. Our organization is ALL volunteers so we appreciate your patience and flexibility.
All dogs listed on our social media sites are available for adoption and are seeking loving forever homes. When you are applying to adopt, please be considerate of our process, and we will do our best to communicate with you at an appropriate pace. We are 100% volunteer-based, but we will make every attempt to reply to all emails and phone calls within 72 hours. (We would love to improve this time so volunteers are welcome)
The decision to place one of our rescue dogs into an adoptive home is not one that we take lightly. Look at us as the perfect matchmaker. While we may approve an application to adopt, that does not guarantee the adoption of a particular animal if it is not a good fit. With any general application not initially approved, we will work with applicants to become an application. We do not do same-day adoptions nor do we operate on a first come first serve basis. It is our goal to find the absolute best fit for both our dogs and potential adopters. We will continue taking applications for a dog until it has officially been adopted.
It is our goal during the adoption process to establish such a relationship with the adopter, the adopter will feel keep us updated on the adopted dog as well as reach out for any issues that may prevent the dog from remaining in their home. In the event that the adopter is no longer able or willing to care for the adopted dog, the adopter understands that the dog MUST be returned to Bigbee Humane Society. Please note that this is stipulated in the adoption contract and Bigbee Humane Society will take legal action should it become necessary.
-We do not do same-day adoptions
-Every effort will be made to review the application in a timely manner. However, we are volunteers so it may 5-7 days before the process is completed and we will inform you of your decision
-Once an application has been approved it will remain on file for 6 months.
-All family members (canine included) must meet the new dog before adoption to ensure compatibility.
-The application must be completed and returned to BHS before a meet and greet will be set up
• $150 for puppies up to 6 months of age
• $125 for dogs 6 months of age to 6 years old
• $75 for dogs 7 years and older
***We reserve the right to charge an adoption fee of up to $500 for breed-specific or purebred dogs, regardless of age***

We are a small animal rescue group located in Headland, Alabama. Our volunteers foster puppies and dogs in their own homes. They provide lots of belly rubs and love to the many four-legged babies while awaiting permanent homes. We love our work! Seeing a formerly homeless animal matched with the “perfect” home — there is no greater joy for a rescuer!
Adoption Policy
You may submit your adoption application online or call/email us…someone will get in touch with you ASAP!! Adoption fees help to offset the cost of vet care (spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, heartworm testing/treatment) which is included with the adoption.

Save Our Strays (S.O.S.) Animal Shelter was founded in 1981 to rescue, shelter, and adopt neglected, abused, and homeless dogs and cats in the city and local counties. In 1987, six years later, the shelter was constructed with many hours of hard work by dedicated volunteers and contributions from caring individuals and businesses.
OUR COMMITMENT is to maintain a no-kill shelter and to end the tragedy of pet overpopulation. To date, we have rescued, rehabilitated, spayed, neutered, and adopted out over 3,000 pets. Regretfully, we turn many animals away because our current facilities are too small and understaffed. We are still struggling against the barren backdrop of skeleton funding and minimal volunteer interest, however, we persevere with our mission of compassionate care. This is no small mission either because on any given day there is an average of 100 dogs and cats waiting for another chance.
YOUR SUPPORT is vital to our mission.
Adoption Policy
We are open Mon-Sat 12-5 pm, and Sun 12-4 pm. We would love to show you all the beautiful animals we have who are waiting to meet their Fur-Ever families!

Adoption Policy
** Applicants are required to be older than 20 years, if living with relatives all adults have to be in agreement about the dog/adoption **
Please fill it out to the best of your ability. After you fill out our application someone will be in touch within 3-5 business days (this depends on the number of applications received). Next, we will set up a home visit (this is mandatory). Please insure that all information is filled in correctly as well as all questions answered to expedite the process. If you do not hear from us within the above-mentioned time frame please send us an email at wiregrassanimalgroup@gmail.com or send us a message on Facebook at WAG – Wiregrass Animal Group.
We require that all pets in the home are spayed/neutered (if over 6 months) prior to adopting one of our dogs unless there is a medical reason (vet confirmation needed). Vaccinations as far as Rabies & Parvo, and consecutive heartworm prevention is also a must for all current dogs. Past dogs should also have a consecutive history of heartworm prevention.
Our adoption fee is $150 which includes spay/neuter, vaccines, prevention consecutively given, and microchip. We do not guarantee the health of our dogs once they leave us. While we do our best to give you all the information we have, the majority of dogs come without any history.
All dogs adopted from us are meant to be inside dogs. They have to be housed inside and can not live outside or be left outside for extended periods of time or when no one is at home. This goes for all breeds. Existing outside dogs have to fulfill the same vetting requirements stated above. Please include an explanation of why you have an outside dog and what accommodations and provisions are made for the dog.
We do adopt out of state however it is the adopter’s responsibility to come and meet the dog as well as get the dog to your home.

It is our goal to find every stray dog and cat a home.
Adoption Policy
What is the process for adopting an animal?
Adopters provide their current contact information, a copy of their driver’s license (or other, valid photo ID), and must sign an adoption contract. If the animal is not yet sterilized and is eligible to be sterilized an appointment is made for a contracted veterinarian of the adopter’s choosing. When the adoption fee is paid the animal is then transported to the vet by staff for sterilization and rabies vaccination, and the adopter picks the animal up from the vet upon release by the veterinarian. If the animal is not eligible to be sterilized (due to age/weight, for example), the adoption fee is waived, and the adopter must contact BARC to set up a BARC spay/neuter voucher during the adoption process. The voucher and voucher payment is taken by the shelter staff (later to be delivered to BARC), and the adopter takes the animal home the same day. The adopter is also given a letter regarding the rabies vaccine requirement if necessary. BARC keeps track of all vouchers and ensures the animal(s) are sterilized as is required under Alabama law. A copy of the BARC voucher can be provided to you upon request. It is a misdemeanor to fail or refuse to comply with Alabama’s sterilization law. Any person failing or refusing to comply will be subject to a fine of a minimum of fifty dollars ($50.00) not to exceed two hundred dollars ($200.00).

Mobile County Animal Control has worked extremely hard over the past 5 years to increase our live release rate. We are pleased to announce that with the help of our awesome adopters, many dedicated Placement Partners, and our caring staff that this year we are on track to achieve more than a 90% live release rate! More than 1,500 dogs have been rescued, adopted, or reclaimed. We couldn’t do it without the help of everyone. Thank you!
The Mobile County Animal Department consists of the Animal Shelter and Animal Control Field Operation Divisions. The department works in partnership with the community to create a safe, healthy, and caring environment for both the citizens and the animals while promoting citizen safety, responsible pet ownership, shelter pet adoptions, and education in the reduction of animal overpopulation.
Responsibility
The primary responsibility of the Mobile County Animal Control division is to enforce Mobile County’s animal control ordinances or the Alabama state statutes in the Mobile County unincorporated communities, specifically impounding dogs roaming at large and investigating other animal issue violations or abuse. This is required by Alabama law to protect the health and safety of our citizens as well as the animals (The Reverence For All Life). Most of the dogs picked up are abandoned animals left to their own resources to survive on the streets. These animals live in harsh environmental conditions, scavenging for food, and are subject to serious illnesses and injuries. We are required to pick up these animals and place them on a seven-day hold that would allow an owner, if there is one, to reunite with them.
The Code Of Alabama Title 3-1-5 is to issue warnings/citations to pet owners who let their dogs run freely. The Dangerous Dog Act 2012-235 requires Animal Control officers to impound dogs with severe physical injuries, that have established a pattern of being a nuisance, or ones that damage the property of others.
Animal Control Officers also investigate cases of domestic animal abuse and neglect. Often, the reports come in from the public. Officers respond to all cases reported to them. If there is probable cause to believe that an animal is at risk, the Officers will immediately open an investigation. These investigations can lead to prosecution by the District Attorney, and it is the job of the Animal Control Officers to testify in court regarding their findings.
Approximately 2400 animals are brought into the Mobile County Animal Shelter on an annual basis. Many of the animals are either strays, abused animals, or animals of the owners in violation of State or Local laws. A growing number of animals are relinquished by their owners who are either unable or unwilling to care for them any longer. The Animal Shelter division is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department and its primary responsibilities include the intake, processing, cleaning, and care of the animals on a daily basis, adoptions, owner reclaims, partnering with the community and out-of-state established 501 c (3) rescue groups, lost/found assistance, and marketing. Unfortunately, there are more animals abandoned in Mobile County than there are homes to adopt them. Please Opt-To-Adopt! There is nothing more loving or loyal than a shelter pet.
Adoption Policy
When you adopt a pet from the Mobile County Animal Shelter you are making a lifelong friend as well as giving an animal a new start in life. We have a variety of mixed breeds and sometimes purebred dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens for adoption.

Lauren’s Zoo Special Interest Adoptions is a small not-for-profit animal rescue organization that specializes in “special needs” and “death row” dogs. We do not have a central location or shelter facility. All of our adoptable pets are kept in individual foster homes until adoptive homes can be approved. We have a wonderful success rate with “special needs” animals (deaf, blind, amputee, etc). In the last 15 years, we have placed hundreds of animals all over the nation.
Adoption Policy
The first step in our adoption process is the completion of our adoption application.
An auto-response containing our application can be received by e-mailing LaurensZoo.application@yahoo.com. Once approved, adoptions can generally be finalized within a week. Out-of-state adoptions aren’t out-of-the-question to find a suitable home for our “special” babies.

Our mission is to provide compassionate care, shelter, food, and medical attention to the animals entrusted to us while promoting adoptions, spay and neuter initiatives, responsible pet ownership, and community education.
The Mobile SPCA is a non-profit humane society and is one of the oldest continuously operating charitable organizations in Alabama. We are a no-kill, limited-intake shelter that offers an adoption guarantee for every healthy or treatable animal we take into our facility.
We do not receive any funds from the city, state, or federal governments. We are not affiliated with any national organization. We are not a chapter of the ASPCA and do not receive funding from the ASPCA or The Humane Society of the United States and are in no way supported financially by any other organization, locally or nationally.
The Society employs a full-time office manager, one office worker, one veterinary technician, five full-time and two part-time kennel staff, and one resale store manager. The Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project is run from the Mobile SPCA office and employs three staff members. Many other duties including animal care, fostering, clerical work, and retail sales are performed by the organization’s 200-plus volunteers.
The office, resale shop, and adoption center are open six days a week. On average, three volunteers in addition to paid staff answer the telephones daily from 9:00 am until 5:30 pm. The Mobile SPCA office handles approximately 650 telephone calls each week ranging from people who want to adopt a pet, lost pets, people who need assistance, or pets that need to be re-homed to cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. In addition to an aggressive adoption program, the Mobile SPCA offers spay/neuter assistance, adoption counseling and training, emergency vet care assistance, pet food assistance, educational programs, and disaster preparedness information. The Mobile SPCA has been tapped by Mobile Emergency Management to open and run Mobile County’s pet-friendly shelter during an emergency.
Adoption Policy
When you adopt a pet, the Mobile SPCA requires that you:
provide your pet with annual veterinarian visits
provide your pet with a full set of vaccinations and inoculations recommended by your veterinarian and as required by law
provide your pet with other veterinary care as needed
maintain your dog in a fenced yard
maintain your cat inside the house
You must meet and agree to certain terms and conditions before adopting a pet from the Mobile SPCA:

Established in late 2019, Safe Harbor Animal Coalition (SHAC) is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people in South Baldwin County, AL. SHAC is currently an all-volunteer group focused on getting homeless animals adopted into loving, forever homes and establishing a robust Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) Program in South Baldwin County. Through TNR, fostering and sheltering adoptable pets, and pet adoption activities, SHAC provides humane solutions to animal overpopulation and potential conflicts between animals and the community. SHAC is a resource for dedicated animal caregivers, advocates, other nonprofit groups, and volunteers driving change and accelerating protections for animals in coastal Alabama.
Officially, SHAC is a new nonprofit organization. But, we have actually emerged from three separate but aligned Animal Care and Control Programs. The Orange Beach Animal Care and Control Program (OBACCP) was formed in June 2017. Between June 2017 and November 2019, OBACCP TNR’d 500 cats, as well as facilitated the adoption of 225 fully vetted cats and 6 fully vetted dogs. The Gulf Shores Animal Care and Control Program (GSACCP) was formed in August 2018 with support from the OBACCP. Between June 2017 and November 2019, GSACCP TNR’d 300 cats. The Foley Animal Care and Control Program (FACCP) was formed in August 2019. Between August and November 2019, FACCP TNR’d 150 cats, facilitated the adoption of 30 fully vetted cats, and reunited 4 dogs with their families.

Located in the Mobile, AL area and along the Eastern Shore of Baldwin County, we are a dedicated group of volunteers, fosters, and veterinarians who love Golden Retrievers. We rescue Goldens who have been abandoned, abused, or relinquished by their owners and strive to find the best possible homes for Golden Retrievers and Retriever mixes in need.
Adoption Policy
Applying for a J&L rescue dog begins with the submission of the Adoption Application. The application is reviewed, and if it appears to meet the adoption criteria for a rescue dog, the process moves on to the next steps:
1. A Veterinarian Reference Check
2. Phone Interview
3. Home Visit
Our thorough application process is intended to help us place each dog in its final, loving home. The process helps us learn about you and helps us work with you to find the best match for you and for the dog.
The J&L Adoption Committee determines if the application should be approved, and once approved, works with applicants to find the most suitable match.
Please note that there are usually more approved applicants waiting for a dog than there are dogs available. The more receptive an applicant is to a dog’s gender, age, and individual characteristics, the more quickly a dog may be matched.
Only APPROVED applicants can be considered for adoption. Rescued Goldens are very special and a few will require some patience and training. All adopters MUST demonstrate an understanding of the nature of rescue and a willingness to work with their dog if needed. It is always WELL worth the effort!
When a match is found, a J&L Contract for that dog is signed, with the submission of the adoption fee.
Adoption Fees:
$700 Purebred puppy to 12 months
$400 Dogs under 7 years
$200 Senior, 7+ years
$500 Bonded pair

We are a foster-based animal rescue group assisting as many strays, injured, orphaned, abandoned, and “left behind” animals as we can.
We arrange meetings for potential adopters once applications are approved. We have many fosters who will bring their foster animals to one location so that families can meet many of our adoptable at one time.
We are partnered with Petsmart in Foley and have some of our adoptable cats and kittens in the windows there.
Have a look at all of our adoptable at http://www.straylove.petfinder.com.
Stray Love Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit
Adoption Policy
All of our rescues are or will be completely vetted, spayed or neutered, and micro-chipped upon approved adoption.
We ask for an adoption donation of $148 for cats/kittens and dogs/puppies (we do ask for more for breed-specific rescues) which helps cover a portion of each animal’s veterinary care.
The Stray Love Foundation strives to find the very best homes for these rescued animals. Please understand that the application process is in place so that we do what is best for both the animal and the potential “new parents”.

SOS (Save Our Snoopies) Beagle Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the placement of abandoned and neglected beagles.
To rescue abandoned dogs from shelters and provide temporary housing for them via our foster network until such time that each may be placed in a loving, safe environment and a permanent home.
To assist owners no longer able to care for their beagles in finding new and permanent homes for them.
To provide public education and training on the beagle breed including characteristics, physical form, and known breed health-related issues.
To reduce pet overpopulation by spaying/neutering all beagles prior to adoption.
All beagles in our care will be raised in a secure, nurturing environment. We will provide veterinary care including vaccination, heartworm testing, treatment (if necessary), and other procedures on an as-needed basis to ensure each dog adopted from our Rescue is physically and mentally sound. We also will provide each animal with behavioral evaluation, socialization, and humane training so that every dog placed through SOS is given the best chance possible to live out his/her life fully in a loving, permanent home.
We will work with local and national humane societies, breed rescues, and animal shelters in an effort to foster a positive community of networked rescue professionals.
The basis for our decision-making will be our knowledge of the breed, and our experiences with working with rescued animals. When necessary, medical decisions will be handled collaboratively between SOS founding members and qualified Doctors of Veterinary Medicine.
Our volunteer staff will be knowledgeable about the breed. They will be professional in all dealings where they serve as representatives of SOS Beagle Rescue.
To build and maintain funds for routine medical care and housing of each dog in our fold.
To microchip and spay/neuter all dogs prior to adoption.
To provide a positive impact on every animal in our care by providing each a permanent, loving home including senior and/or special needs dogs.
To increase public awareness of the beagle breed and SOS Beagle Rescue, by attending shelter showcases, and meet and greets, and by participating in an ongoing exchange with others in the business of rehoming pets.
To build our volunteer and foster home base.
Adoption Policy
1. Fill out our online application form. You must be over 21 to adopt! We will acknowledge receipt of your application within 48 hours. Once you’ve submitted your application form, please allow us 2 weeks to process your application. (We generally do so within 1 week.)
2. Please note that:
All current pets must be up to date on shots and heartworm preventative. We have no reason to believe that our dog will be given better vet care than those already in your possession, and we’ve spent time and money to be sure our dogs are healthy when adopted. We will not risk that required follow-up care will be neglected.
Applicants with children 8 years of age or younger, with no recent beagle ownership, are required to have a fenced-in yard. Occasional exceptions are made if there is a history of recent beagle ownership.
3. We will contact you when your application is approved. You will be asked to review the available dogs on our website for a potential match, and/or we will contact you when one comes to the rescue. If you are looking for a very young pup or something very specific (13″ male 1-2 yrs. old) it may take longer for you to hear from us — we won’t contact you unless we have something that is near your request
4. All of our beagles are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on heartworm preventative.
5. All adoptions require a personal visit by all family members residing in the home — we do not ship our dogs to their new homes.
6. We will contact you to make an appointment for your interview and to meet the dog. Appointments are offered at the convenience of both you and the home where the dog is being fostered. (Remember, we have jobs and family obligations, too, and occasionally have to make time for such events!)
7. An adoption fee of $180 is required at the time of adoption, payable in cash or money order. (We have regrettably had to discontinue the acceptance of personal checks.) This partially reimburses us for the cost of your dog’s spay/neuter, shots, heartworm test (and treatment, if necessary), microchip, and other expenses. Occasional special needs or senior dogs may qualify for a reduction in the adoption fee.
8. Please have the courtesy to call us and cancel your application if you find a dog elsewhere. We are volunteers, work full-time, have families and pets of our own, and our time and resources are just as precious to us and the dogs we are trying to help, as they are to you.

Wags and Whiskers is a FOSTER-based small rescue along the Gulf Coast. We take in dogs from local shelters, strays, and from individuals who are in need of help. We can only take in dogs that we have a foster space available for and that space is limited due to the sheer number of unwanted dogs in our area. Our primary veterinarian is Dr. David Martin at Parkway Animal Hospital. He oversees all medical treatment. All dogs are current on vaccinations, dewormed, and heartworm tested if they are over 6 months of age and are altered before adoption. PARKWAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL DOES NOT HOUSE OUR DOGS ONLY PROVIDES MEDICAL TREATMENT! We have an adoption process that consists of an online application that can be emailed to you, a reference check, a meet and greet, and a home visit. Adoptions will not be finalized until all procedures listed have been completed. We do not adopt on a first come first serve basis but to the best home for that particular animal when there are multiple applicants.
Adoption Policy
To adopt one of our rescues please email Wagsandwhiskersrescuepets@yahoo.com for the application and to start the adoption process. Vet references and home checks are required. We do not adopt on a first come first serve basis but to the home, we feel is the best fit for that particular pet when there are multiple applicants. We hope to hear from you soon!
Wags and Whiskers is a completely foster-based rescue. We do not have a physical location or a landline. Grandbay, AL is just a central generalized location for our foster system. To meet a pup you just submit an application. Once approved we can set up a meet and greet with the pup in which you are interested.
